Sonam Kapoor was never considered for 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein': Punit Malhotra

"Sonam was considered for the film is a rumour," Said Punit Malhotra.

Filmmaker Punit Malhotra, who worked with Sonam Kapoor in his debut film 'I Hate Luv Storys', has shot down reports that the actress was supposed to play the female lead in his upcoming movie 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein'.

"Sonam (Kapoor) was considered for the film is a rumour that started somewhere... She was never officially approached for the film," Punit told PTI.

Being produced by Karan Johar, 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. The film will release on November 22.

The 31-year-old director said Imran took six months to come on board for the project.

"I wrote the script keeping Imran in mind. But, when I took the film to Imran he refused to do it because he had some problem with the rural setting of the film. In the first narration, he liked my film. Then I took the film to elsewhere and it didn't work out either.

"I again went to Imran and made him hear the first narration. He liked it and stepped back. I was so angry because he had ruined the six months of my life," Punit said.

Having started his career as an assistant director to Johar, Amol Palekar, Nikhil Advani and Tarun Mansukhani, Punit made his debut as a director with the 2010 romantic film.

Asked about his fascination for romantic films, Punit said, "Love Story comes naturally to me after my first film. But I promise that my next won't be a love story. I got so hooked on this story that I don't know how many drafts I wrote and finally decided one day to direct it."

Punit's next is a drama titled 'Gutka', which stars superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead.

"It's a drama and it's a completely different film from what I have made earlier. It's too early to talk about it. We are at a very nascent stage now. We haven't finalized the leading actress yet."
