Rachana Narayanankutty is destined to dance
Whoever said television actors are not accepted as film stars should take inspiration from Rachana NarayanaÂnkutty. Her popularity after playing Valsala Madam in the TV serial Marimayam was followed by lead roles in Malayalam films.
But now there seems to be an ominous silence from Rachana’s side as far as her film career goes. Turns out, the pretty lady is busy giving shape to a dance drama. Rachana is a trained classical dancer and runs a dance school in Thrissur.
Rachana clarifies, “I am not refusing film offers; it is just that I am not ready to give up the classical dance forms that I have learnt!” Rachana goes on to explain what her dance drama is all about, “Titled Shakuntalam, I have chosen one story from history which everyone can relate to. To make it more appealing and palatable to the common man, I have also incorporated evergreen numbers from old films in the semi-classical dance drama.” Rachana admits that dance drama can have limitations when film songs are used, nevertheless people still like to listen to classic evergreen songs to evoke nostalgia. The number of recent films that have incorporated old songs is proof of it.
Rachana has choreographed dance dramas earlier too, but the inspiration for this one came from her father. Smiling, she explains, “My father has the habit of listening to old compositions and some of them like the ones composed by Dakshina Murthy lend itself to dance. So in a way my father started my thought process.”
Talking about her film career, she candidly admits that she is not busy shooting. She states, “I am happy to find time to concentrate on my dance which I have always wanted to do. Dance is something I never want to lose touch with at any cost!”
Rachana will be seen in Ranjith Shankar directed 'Punyalan Agarbathis'. Talking about her role, she says, “I play an advocate in the film who is very bold and I speak Thrissur slang.” That would not be hard for her as she is from Thrissur.
