Dinner and music
A popular blend of rock with a twist in the tale is what makes Dinner And A Suit, an American rock band based in Nashville, Tenessese, sound like an atmospheric but alternative/indie rock band. They performed in Bengaluru on November 16 at Counter Culture. On the eve of their trip, they get chatting with us. trip, they get chatting with us.
“When we landed in India, we didn't know what to expect. But everybody here has been very nice and warm. We hope we meet a lot of people in Bengaluru and make some new fans. We want to incorporate how we sound in a record into our concert in Bengaluru. So, the crowd can expect a very energetic performance as well as a lot of interaction from us," says Jonathan Capeci, frontman of the band.
The members of the four-piece band, Jonathan, Joey Beretta, Anthony Genca and Drew Scheuer, grew up in New Jersey. Jonathan, Joey and Anthony are cousins who grew up together listening to different kinds of music.
“Our great-grandmother worked in a clothes factory during the Great Depression. She used to bring home clothes that were discarded by the factory, invite homeless people from the city to dinner and give the clothes to them. We grew up listening to this story and when Joey and I decided to form the band, we gave it the name, Dinner And A Suit, to pay tribute to her humane nature," reflects Jonathan.
The sound of the band is a direct result of the diverse musical influences of its members. Their influences include Coldplay, Kings of Leon, John Mayer, Switchfoot and many more. They released their first album, 'Light and Lungs', in 2008 but the album did not do well. With their second album, 'Since Our Departure', the band has evolved into something which is very strong both lyrically and musically.
“We always write songs about our personal feelings. Our song, 'Too Late' from the album 'Since Our Departure', is a song written about making a decision and even if you make a bad decision, it is never too late turn around. With 'Since Our Departure' we have evolved into a more complete band. Drew, our drummer had joined us by then and we could produce a more complete and acceptable sound," says Joey.
The band is planning a US tour in 2014 and also hoping to come back to India in the later half of the year.
