Rahul Gandhi spares Aam Aadmi Party, turns ire on BJP
New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in his seven-minute speech in Delhi on Sunday completely ignored the Aam Aadmi Party and went all out in support of three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is leading the party in a bid for a fourth term.
“The Dikshit-led government has transformed the city, which even the Opposition will acknowledge. To allow the development to continue, vote for the Congress,” the Nehru-Gandhi family scion said as he addressed an election rally at Dakshinpuri in South Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar constituency — regarded as a Congress stronghold.
Continuing his pitch on development, Gandhi, who was in trouble with the election commission over the content of his recent speech, said in his short and staid speech, “Look at the Delhi airport, it’s now considered the second best in the world. Transportation has improved — almost two million people travel in the Metro every day.
There used to be shortage of electricity, but today we have 24-hour power. The whole infrastructure has changed. Over 130 flyovers have been built. No other state has such good infrastructure.”
He, however, said the Congress government in Delhi was not about development alone, but for empowerment and rights. Describing Delhi as a 'city of migrants' and a 'mini Hindustan', the Congress vice-president said that all the country’s “energy” could be seen in the national capital.
“Go to states where the BJP runs the government like Karnataka, they only create tension. People from Uttar Pradesh go to Maharashtra, but they and the Shiv Sena make them leave the city. For the Congress party, every citizen is the equal whether he is a Hindu, a Muslim or a Sikh. In Delhi, there is compassion and brotherhood,” he said.
