Dr G gets into Rahul Gandhi’s good books

The quarterly meeting in New Delhi to review the performance of the Congress government.

Bangalore: The quarterly meeting in New Delhi to review the performance of the Congress government reportedly brought KPCC president, Dr G. Parameshwar on an even keel with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

A highly placed source in the AICC said that Dr Parameshwar managed to score over the Chief Minister at the meeting held by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday evening.

The meeting discussed the present political situation in Karnataka and preparations to be made for the Lok Sabha polls, Gandhi did not openly criticise anyone at the meeting at which Siddaramaiah reportedly spoke first for almost half an hour.

His presentation reportedly did not evoke much of a reaction. Dr Parameshwar then made his presentation which earned praise for him, said sources.

Interestingly, the recommendations made by the KPCC president on the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections reportedly evoked a positive reaction from Gandhi who said: "I think what Dr Parameshwar said was right and we will go by that."

According to sources who closely follow Gandhi’s style of functioning, he would prefer to remain silent if a presentation is not upto his expectations. If he is convinced about the logic of a presentation, he would show interest which was what apparently happened in Dr Parameshwar’s case Another factor that would make Siddaramaiah worried is the growing perception among senior leaders at the national level that he is a ‘solo player.’ Many senior leaders including Mohsina Kidwai reportedly asked senior leaders from Karnataka, "Why is your CM in a hurry? Why is he taking decisions on his own?"

Sources said that Siddaramaiah who completed six months in office recently, may have to accommodate the views of other senior leaders in the party to negate this perception among a section of leaders in the state Congress.

After the meeting, Siddaramaiah and Dr Parameshwar went to an undisclosed destination where the co-ordination committee meeting took place. AICC general secretary, Digivijay Singh chaired the meeting, the sources added.
