While some of Mallika Sherawat’s statements in the past have been met with scorn and cynicism, the actor recently earned the respect of netizens for standing by her statement that India was "regressive" and here "women were at the bottom of the society".
The video of the actress snapping at a reporter who asked her: "You called India regressive and depressing. So why would you want to come back to this country and find true love?" has gone viral online.
Mallika had hit back: "From female foeticide, infanticide numbers rising on a daily basis to gang rapes making headlines, honour killings... Today I read in the paper that according to UNFPA, 40 percent of Indian women are married below the age of 18. I think it's a very, very regressive state for women and I stand by it."
