Singing was my father’s dream: Ritu Pathak
Ritu Pathak has quite a few hit songs in her kitty — right from "Jalebi Bai" from 'Double Dhamaal' to "Razia Gundo Mein Phas Gayi" from 'Thank You'. The latest addition is "Gandi Baat" from Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha-starrer 'R… Rajkumar'. “When Pritam sir called me for the song, all I knew was that it was for a Prabhu Deva film. So I knew it would be energetic and high pitched,” says Ritu taking us through the song’s journey.
It was her father’s dream that she become a singer. “I would sing at functions and social gatherings where everybody would applaud my talent and encourage me to take up signing professionally. Coming to Mumbai was a huge decision for me since didn’t know anybody in the city at that time. So I participated in shows such as Indian Idol and Fame X and returned to Madhya Pradesh,” she says adding, “Then one day I got a call from my guru Sowmya Raoh. That was like a call from God. She convinced me to keep trying and return to Mumbai. After a lot of struggle, I got my break with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.”
Speaking about her future projects, Ritu says, “I have recorded some numbers with Pritam and Sajid-Wajid, but it’s premature to talk about what films they’ll be used for.”
