Urmila in Deccanwood?
Actor-filmmaker Adnan Sajid Khan, popularly known as Gullu Dada, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Gullu Dada 4'. He is also simultaneously in talks with Bollywood stars for a first-time association between Bollywood and Deccanwood.
The Hyderabadi is trying to rope in Urmila Matondkar and Mahima Chaudhry to play lead roles in his next project — a movie titled 'Stepny'.
'Gullu Dada 4' is due for release on December 27 in Karnataka and Dubai. “The release of 'Gullu Dada 4' is in itself special because no Hindi or Deccani movie has so far had four parts,” says Khan.
The actor started his career in 2007 with 'Fm' — 'Fun Aur Masti' in which he played a local don, ‘Gullu Dada’, and the name and character stuck with him.
Khan has worked in nine films of which four were received well by Hyderabadis — namely 'Fm Fun Aur Masti', 'Gullu Dada Returns', 'Family Pack' and 'Gullu Dada Three'.
He owes it all to his fans, who are now spread across the world. 'Gullu Dada' Fan page on Facebook has nearly 68,000 followers from countries like US and Canada.
About his fan following, Khan says, “I think I managed to strike a cord with the audience with my dialogues. Dialogue delivery I feel is my back bone.” He is right to believe that. Even after years, people remember his dialogues and his style of saying ‘aayen’ is still popular amongst youngsters.
Now he is gearing up for the much important infusion of a little bit of Bollywood into Deccani films.
“For the first time Bollywood enters Deccanwood,” enthuses the man, before adding, “We are in talks with Bollywood actors like Urmila Matondkar and Mahima Choudhry for lead roles and Satish Kaushik, Tinu Anand, Asrani and many more in interesting character slots. The film is going on floors in first week of January 2014.”
But is this really the first time ever that Deccani is being employed in Bollywood? Khan insists, “Yes. There was only one man who even tried to infuse language from this region in Bollywood that was Mehmood saab. But then he used the language from Bengaluru area.”
The film titled 'Stephany' will focus on the issue of extra marital affairs. It will be directed by Aziz Naser, another Deccani icon with a huge fan following in the city owing to his movies like The Angrez and Hyderabad Nawabs.
