Aadhaar linkage to become must

Subsidy will be given to only those who give their Aadhaar card and bank details to dealers.

Nellore: It is better for all the LPG consumers to submit their Aadhaar card and bank details to their dealers before December 31 for linkage and to obtain gas supplies at subsidised price since the LPG companies have already changed their software for subsidy-transfer to bank accounts of consumers.

Many consumers have not submitted their Aadhar card and bank account details to LPG dealers although the deadline is nearing because of the rulings of Supreme Court as well as High Court in the recent past against the condition of linkage.

Notwithstanding to the rulings, district administration has been going ahead with the linkage activity under the plea that they have not received the directions of the court yet.

One major problem to stop the linkage of LPG with bank account and Aadhar card of consumers is the updated software by the gas companies. The software generates bill for Rs 1,070 for those already linked bank accounts and they have to pay the sum at the time of delivery of the refill.

The subsidy part is being credited to their account soon after they book for refill. Those who have not linked so far have been paying Rs 418 per refill and the facility will come to an end by December 31.

They will be forced to pay Rs 1,070 without subsidy benefit from January 2014 if they ignore submitting the details of linkage, according to civil supplies officials.

Even if court directions are received against linkage, the implementation will take time since the gas companies have to change the software once again all over the country to facilitate the rulings of the courts, the officials added.

District supplies officer Umamaheswar Rao said that 2.80 lakh consumers have submitted details of linkage so far out of 4.40 lakh consumers and they include 1.40 lakh consumers under Deepam scheme. Linkage exercise has been completed with respect to 1,72,958 consumers and the activity is in progress.

He said that they have found consumers including Deepam scheme having double connections during the bank linkage and nearly one lakh connections have been automatically cancelled already.

He too suggested consumers to ensure bank linkage of their Aadhar and gas connections on war footing for subsidy benefit while claiming that they have not received the court order on the subject.
