Taxi driver lures teen for homosexual act, boy kills him for mobile phone

New Delhi: Luring a juvenile for homosexual act cost a middle-aged taxi driver his life as the teenager allegedly killed him for his mobile phone, police said on Thursday.

The 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended on Wednesday from his house in Sangam Vihar in connection with the murder of one taxi driver Guddu, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) P. Karunakaran.

The body of 35-year-old Guddu, a Lucknow resident, was recovered from a park near Adilabad Fort in Tuglakabad area on September 24, and his mobile phone and other belongings were found missing.

According to primary investigations several drivers at the taxi stands on which Guddu worked since the past 14 years were questioned, it was revealed that a teenager who frequented the area could have committed the crime.

"It was also found that earlier he used to be seen in the area near the spot regularly but from the day of the incident, alleged juvenile was missing. Finally, on specific information the juvenile was nabbed at around 8.30 AM from his house. He later confessed his involvement in the crime," the DCP said.

During interrogation, the juvenile told police that he met Guddu on the day of the incident in a bus plying from Karol Bagh to Khanpur. The deceased made sexual advances towards him after which both struck a deal.

The juvenile also got attracted by the new mobile phone of the deceased. He led Guddu to Adilabad Fort as he used to frequent that place to play cricket, the SP said.

"Reaching a secluded spot, the juvenile hit Guddu on his head until he became unconscious and then fled with his mobile phone and Rs 50 found in his pocket. He kept the mobile phone in his house and did not use it as he was aware that the police would reach through mobile phone," Karunakaran said. A case has already been registered in this connection, he added.

Faridabad: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly repeatedly raped by her father for nearly two months in the Tilpat area of the district, police said on Thursday.

Accused Rajesh was arrested on Thursday and was on Friday presented before a court which sent him to judicial custody, a police spokesman said.

A case in this regard was registered yesterday with the Sarai Kwaja police on the complaint of the girl's mother, the spokesman said.

In the complaint, the mother has alleged that when she returned from work Wednesday evening, her minor daughter told her that Rajesh had been raping her for two months.

Rajesh would allegedly rape the girl in the daytime when her mother would be in office, the spokesman said. The woman claimed when she spoke to Rajesh about it, he beat her up, after which she approached the police.

Jaipur: A 35-year-old married woman has alleged that her husband forced her to establish physical relations with other men for money, police said on Thursday.

The woman, who has three daughters, had also alleged that her husband strangulated her father to death over a property dispute, police said. However, on her interrogation, it turned out that her father had died of an ailment and the allegation of strangulation was false, they said.

Accused Veer Singh Sansi (40) who is allegedly involved in illegal selling of country-made liquor, was arrested yesterday on the charges of murder and rape, ACP Bagh Singh Rathore told PTI. In an FIR lodged with the Sanganer police station on December 17, the woman alleged that her husband had forced her to establish physical relations with other persons for money, the ACP said.

She had also alleged that her father was strangulated to death by her husband in the past (date and time not mentioned), ACP said. But when she was interrogated along with the accused, it was revealed that her father died of some ailments and the allegation was false, the ACP said. Victim's statements will be recorded and probe is on, he added.

Gold, diamonds worth Rs 3.3 cr seized by DRI; 4 arrested

Ahmedabad: Four persons including three members of a family were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) with smuggled gold and diamonds worth Rs 3.3 crore from Memco crossroads of the city, official sources said on Thursday.

The four were arrested in the wee hours and produced before a magistrate, who sent them to 15 days judicial custody.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI sleuths intercepted a car in which the four persons were carrying 4.25 kg gold and 10 kg diamonds, which were smuggled into the country via Nepal border. They were reaching the city by road from Jaipur.

A DRI official said that a lookout notice was issued by Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials and Customs department against the mastermind of the racket, Pradip Jagada (45), a resident of Veraval. "Earlier, he used to smuggle gold and diamonds via air from Dubai to Ahmedabad. After a lookout notice was issued in his name, he was using the porous border of Nepal and Bangladesh to smuggle gold and diamond into the country," the official said.

Pradip Jagada's wife Bharti (40), son Dharmendra Jagada (21) and an assistant from their village, Vicky, were arrested along with him, the official said. DRI officials said that a large gang seems to be at work and they are investigating into the direct and indirect support for these four persons.

The diamonds were said to be blood (conflict) diamonds without Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). Also the value of the consignment could be higher than estimated, they said.

Kimberley Process is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds - rough diamonds - used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments.

Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three youngsters in Vanasthalipuram. Though the incident took place on Tuesday, it came to light only on Wednesday after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s uncle. The accused and the victim are well acquainted.

The accused were identified as Madhu, Chandrashekhar and Rahul. The victim is a resident of Kamaguda and is a Class 10 student at a private school.

A couple of days ago, the victim did not return home from school. Her uncle lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday morning. Based on a complaint, a missing persons case was registered. Madhu took the victim to an isolated place near Turkemjal village in Vanasthalipuram and raped her.

He was joined by the other accused. “We have taken the the trio for questioning and are verifying the facts,” a cop said.

The police said the woman spoke only Telugu and they were trying to find out more about her.

Gold biscuit valued at Rs 30 lakh seized at Kochi airport

Kochi: A one-kg gold biscuit valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh was today seized by Customs Air Intelligence Unit from a passenger who arrived here from Dubai.

The passenger, Abdul Kareem, reached here by a flight early this morning. The gold biscuit was found cut into two pieces and cleverly concealed inside specially made cavities of a pair of sandals worn by the passenger, who had left for Dubai from India on December 10 on his first visit abroad, airport sources said.

To qualify to import one kg of gold, a passenger has to stay abroad for more than six months and the duty amount has to be paid in convertible foreign exchange. This is the first gold seizure in this month while the gold imported through the legitimate channel by payment of duty from Dec 1-Dec 18 was 129.64 kg.

This is the highest import of legitimate gold for a month and the duty amount collected was approximately Rs 4 crore, the sources said. The seizure was effected by a team of officers under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Air Intelligence Unit) S.A.S. Navaz and Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Kumar.

Hyderabad: A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Kukatpally Housing Board police on Wednesday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.

The accused, who was close to the victim, took her out on the pretext of buying her biscuits and clothes and raped her. The locals, who found him with the girl in a compromised situation, caught and thrashed him. He was later handed over to the police.

The accused has been identified as Vasudevan, who works at a hotel. The victim, a resident of Borabanda, is a fourth standard student from a private school in the area.

According to A. Gangaram, inspector, KPHB, Vasudevan, a drunkard, is also homeless. He was close to the victim’s father, a fruit vendor. He often visited his house. On Wednesday morning, when the accused was alone playing at her house, the accused approached her.

“He promised her to buy biscuits and clothes. The victim trusted Vasudevan and went along with him.” Gangaram said.

Vasudevan took her to an isolated hillock near Mullakathva Cheruvu Tank and raped her there. The girl has sustained severe injuries.

Chennai: Cash amount of Rs 61,000 was looted from the ticket co­unter in Tambaram railway station well after Tue­s­day midnight when the co­unter staff went to meet the station master aft­er locking up the counter area.

Rajasekhar, who returned to the counter located on East Tambaram side aro­u­nd 2.30 am after meeting the station master, was sho­ck­ed to find the collec­tion amount from 8 pm missing.

“We are browsing through the video clippings of over 20 surveillance cameras to lo­ok for clues,” the railway police said.

The amount stolen was only over Rs 61,000 because the money collected till 8 pm in the counter had been handed over to the commercial department.

The ticket counter usually remains closed from 12 mi­d­night to 3 am. Rajs­ek­har was on night duty from 8 pm to 6 am.

The theft took place on the East Tambaram side co­unter as the railway po­li­ce station and RPF booth are located near the counter on the West Tambaram side.

Chennai: The mahila court in Chennai on Wednesday awarded seven years’ rigorous im­p­risonment to four yo­uths on a charge of abducting a minor girl who was do­ing plus-two three years ago. Judge Meena Sat­he­esh also slapped on them a total fine of Rs 20,000.

The accused, B. Murali, 22, his brother, B. Raghu, 29, friends J. Murugan, 29, and K. Kalimuthu, 23, of Ashok Nagar, had gone to a nearby government sch­o­ol by car on December 13, 2010. They waited for the arrival of the girl, a re­­lative of Murali, near the school.

As soon as she came out, they forcibly pushed her into the vehicle. When the passer-by ru­shed to rescue her, the accused thr­e­atened them with a knife and escaped with the girl. Based on a complaint, Ku­maran nagar police arrested them.

Bangalore: The recent case in which 22 Karnataka Rakshana Ved­ike (KRV) activists were arrested by Vishw­anath­apura police for allegedly trying to extort sand lorry drivers has exposed the rampant filter sand mafia on the outskirts of the city.

Following the incident, the police cracked down on several places in Anekal and Jigani on Tuesday.

They raided 23 places where illegal filter sand business was being carried out and seized three lorries with sand. It is said that the district administration and the police decided to act aga­inst the mafia after complaints from the public and NGOs. “As a large number of buildings are under construction, there is a huge demand for sand from constructors. The illegal sand busi­ness is thriving beca­use of that,” a police officer said.

The business is said to be flourishing in areas like Devanahalli, Dodda­balla­pura, Hosakote, Chikb­alla­pur and Kanakapura. Filter sand extracted from fields and dried up ponds are being supplied in
the city.

“Approximately, 40 per cent of the sand supplied to the city is filter sand. Building owners who cannot make out the difference between filter sand and river bed sand are being cheated by builders and constructors. They make huge profits as filter sand requires less inves­tment. Even the transportation cost for filter sand is less as it is brought from the outskirts of the city, while river sand is loaded and br­o­ught from far-off places,” the officer said.

“As builders use filter sand in construction, the quality of the building falls. In most of the building collapse cases, use of filter sand is blamed as one of the primary causes,” he said.
On December 11, 22 KRV activists were arrested by Vishwanathapura police near Devanahalli for trying to extort sand lorry driv­ers. The accused had demanded Rs 12.5 lakh as protection money fro­m a businessman. As he did not pay heed to them, the activists allegedly waylaid the lorries, as some of them belo­nged to the businessman.

Bangalore: The Byatarayanpura pol­­­­ice arrested four people, who allegedly cheated several youth by pro­mising jobs at BHEL.

The accused have been identified as Chamaiah, 55, H.S. Naveen, 32, San­tosh Singh, 29, and Shy­am Sundar, 25.

The police said that Harsha, 28, filed a complaint stating that he ga­ve Rs 3 lakh to Naveen in Sept­ember 2011 and he was promised a job as junior engineer at BH­EL. Six months later, Na­v­­een took Harsha to BHEL office on Mys­ore Road, where he introduced ano­t­her acc­used Cha­maiah as the personal assistant to the general manager.

“The duo gave a fake offer letter and when Harsha went to BHEL to report for duty on May 2, 2013, he was stopped by Cha­maiah, on the premise that a bomb was found on ca­m­pus.

He was told the same thing on May 20 an­d May 27. Cha­maiah later dem­anded another Rs 20,000 to check about his job. That is when Harsha filed a complaint,” the police said, and added, “The accused have che­ated many from the city, Tumkur, Hubli, Hassan and other towns. They were promised jobs like assistant engineers, senior technician, mechanical engineer and so on.”
