Cops book Bahrain diplomat for abuse

Police has booked Consul General under charges of molesting and hurling abuses at a woman.

Mumbai: The Malabar Hill police has booked Consul General of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Mumbai under charges of molesting and hurling abuses at a woman. The police is still in a tizzy as the accused enjoys diplomatic immunity that protects him from being arrested.

The accused has been identified as Md Abdul Aziz Al Khaja, who lives in the Silver Arch Cooperative Housing Society in Malbar Hill.

According to the police, the complainant in the case is a 49-year-old manager of the society. In her complaint to the police, she has said that since their building is very old, its elevator was recently changed. On December 9, Khaja was seen banging the lift door.

“Hearing the loud sound, the complainant rushed to him and asked him if something was wrong and as to why he was damaging the lift. This angered Khaja and a heated argument broke out between them. During the scuffle, Khaja allegedly touched her inappropriately and also hurled abuses at her,” said a senior cop. After other members of the society intervened, the matter was settled.

Later, the scared complainant through her advocate complained to the principle secretary, chief protocol officer, general administration department at Mantralaya and also to the ambassador consulate of Bahrain in New Delhi, but she claimed to have not gotten any feedback. She finally approached the police.

“On the lady’s complaint filed on December 13, Khaja was booked under charges of IPC Section 354, 509 and 504,” the senior officer said.

The police is awaiting orders from the higher government authority to proceed in the case.
