Wild bear flutter in Huzurabad

A wild bear which strayed into Huzurabad town near here created a panic among local people on Thursday.

Karimnagar: A wild bear which strayed into Huzurabad town near here created a panic among local people on Thursday. The bear climbed a tall neem tree at Saibababa Temple at Pathawada in the town and remained their as huge number of people gathered on the ground. Police, revenue and forest officials who reached the spot said the bear could be trapped late into the night.

“As the bear has become ferocious following the gathering of the people and noise, it is not safe to trap it. It may resort to attacks on people. We will wait until it descends from atop the tree. Rescue team and experts were brought from Warangal,” said Huzurabad police inspector Srinivas.

A leopard killed a calf in a dairy farm on the outskirts of Aluru in Raikal mandal on December 16. Earlier, a sloth bear created ruckus by going berserk for over eight hours in the heart of Karimnagar town on September 28.

Interestingly, the bear also appeared at the district police headquarters where the SP office is located. “As mining is growing in the district, the wild animals have been losing their habitat and are forced to to step out of forests,” said district forest officer (West) Dr. G. Narsaiah.

He opined that the increasing population and expansion of human habitations into forests was also contributing to the recurrence of phenomenon.

On the other hand, villagers plead the revenue officials to take steps to avoid loss of human lives by animals. â?oIt is better taking precautionary measures. Else, general public are prone to be killed by the animals, besides losing cattle, sheep and goats,â? stated Nakka Srija, Deshrajpally village in Ramadugu mandal.
