Sunanda death may be suicide/accident: Sub-divisional magistrate
New Delhi: Confirming that Sunanda Pushkar, wife of HRD minister of state Shashi Tharoor, had died of “poisoning”, the sub-divisional magistrate probing the case Tuesday ruled out murder, dowry harassment and the possibility of a drug overdose as causes of her death.
Directing the police to do a fresh investigation, SDM Alok Sharma said this would help determine if it was suicide or an accident. “The post-mortem report suggests she died of poisoning. I have directed the police to carry out further investigations,” he told this newspaper.

The viscera report, that is expected in a month’s time from the Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini, will give further details on the “contents” and “quantity” of the substance that turned lethal for 52-year-old Sunanda.
Earlier, two empty strips of Alpaz, a tranquiliser that is sold by prescription, were found in the hotel room where she was found dead. The viscera report will also reveal if Pushkar had consumed alcohol. “If the quantity of alcohol is less, it does not show in the post-mortem.
The viscera report will shed light on that too,” said a senior doctor.
The investigations done on her vital organs, that were preserved during the autopsy, have ruled out the possibility of a heart attack or any other disease having caused her death.
