Dacoity gangs active on outskirts of city
Hyderabad: Gangs of dacoits are once again operating on the city’s outskirts armed with lethal weapons, including country made firearms and knives, making it hard for citizens to keep their property safe.
While three days ago, a gang robbed a physician’s house in broad daylight at Virat Nagar in Meerpet, an old couple was attacked and robbed in Keesara last Thursday.
The offenders take advantage of the lack of specific crime detection teams of the Cyberabad police and continue to strike at less populated areas. Investigation officials said, one gang hails from North India while the second one is from Rayalaseema.
The gangs, that had been staying low for a few months, have started targeting victims again, especially older citizens.
According to the investigators, the dacoits who stole 180 gm gold ornaments and '5,000 in cash from Meerpet, were speaking in Hindi. They also had country made fire arms with them, said LB Nagar DCP P. Viswa Prasad. They are suspected to be from Bihar or Uttar Pradesh.
Senior officials of Cyberabad, meanwhile, confess that they do not have enough manpower to form specific crime detection teams to concentrate on property offenders. With regular duties and specific bandobasts, as required from time to time, very few cops are left for crime prevention.
