Microsoft lures customers with discounts for upgrades
April 8, 2014 is soon around the corner, and Windows XP will see the end of a 14-year service. Yes, as we all know, Microsoft is pulling the plug from Windows XP and will no longer support the old operating system. This will bring a plethora of problems to users who still stick to Windows XP since the systems will be vulnerable and Microsoft will no longer patch the loopholes and problem areas in the future.
Hackers and viruses will rejoice as they will be in exploit heaven and customers will be at a high risk with their data and PCs prone to being hijacked. Microsoft has informed about the Windows XP end-of-life for long, and the time has finally arrived.
Windows XP users are refusing to shift to the next latest and safer operating system (Windows 7 or Windows 8). The main reasons pointed out are high costs for the hardware upgrades and new operating system purchase and more importantly, compatibility of existing, older software.
In order to make this decision easier and cut down the costs (though marginally) Microsoft is now giving away discounts and offers on new PCs with the new operating systems. A decent $100 (approx Rs 6,200) off on new (select) PCs over $599, and on any Surface Pro 2 is what Microsoft has put up on their website. Additionally, it also will offer a 90-day free support and free data transfer from the older PC to the new one using Laplink (a data migration service).
