Congress flip-flop on Telangana students
Hyderabad: With the party high command changing four candidates in less than 24 hours, protests continued on Tuesday among the Congress leaders who have been denied tickets for the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel asked Telangana PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah not to give B forms to the candidates announced for the Secunderabad Cantonment (M. Krishank), Thungathurthy (Gudipathi Narasaiah) and Narsampet (D. Madhava Reddy).
The party brass took the decision after Telangana JAC leaders met Mrs Gandhi in Delhi on Tuesday.
While releasing the list of party Lok Sabha candidates for Telangana recently, the AICC spokesperson had stated that Telangana JAC leaders Krishank and Daruvu Yellanna (student leaders), Gajjala Kantham and Addanki Dayakar would be given Assembly tickets.
But when the list was released on Monday, except for Mr Krishank’s, the other three names were missed.
Mr Kantham, Mr Dayakar, film director Mr Sankar and others met Mrs Gandhi on Tuesday following which the high command decided to change three candidates. Mr Kanth-am was given Secunder-abad Cantonment, Mr Dajayar was given Thun-gathurthy and Mr Katti Venkata Swamy was given the Narsampet Assembly seat.
Meanwhile the party high command also asked Mr Laxmaiah not to give B form to Jukkal candidate Mr Gangaram as a new candidate might be nominated from here.
