Andhra Pradesh assembly dissolved; President's rule imposed

President's rule to continue till 2nd June

Hyderabad: Accepting the recommendations of the Union Cabinet, President Pranab Mukherjee late on Monday night dissolved the 13th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the last House of the united state, and re-imposed President Rule beyond April 3

Even after declaration of elections results on May 16, the new House cannot be constituted unless the Union Cabinet sends a fresh recommendation to the President ending Central rule and allowing the Governor to constitute the Assembly.

In all probability, and even according to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, President’s Rule might be continued till June 2, the Appointed Day, and the Assemblies will be constituted for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

President’s rule was imposed and the Legislative Assembly kept under suspended animation on March 1. With no possibility of securing parliamentary ratification for the Presidential proclamation before the expiry of the two-month period on April 30, the Union Cabinet had recommended that the Assembly be dissolved and President’s rule re-imposed.
