Chennai: She might have joined college, may be planning to become the next Zuckerberg, but this software engineering graduate is now set to rule tinsel town with her gorgeous looks and talent.
Deekshitha Manikkam, a student from SRM University, has already found fame in her college days by being a Miss South India finalist and starring in the popular web series Happy To Be Single.
Now she’s entering Kollywood, debuting alongside Jai and Nazriya in the romcom,Thirumanan Enum Nikkah. “I’d been into dance since I was a kid, and there was always encouragement from my family to be as creative as possible. Then modelling and beauty pageants happened, and movie offers kept rolling in. Happy To Be Single was such a fun journey, and the response was totally unexpected. I learnt to be confident, to experiment and be comfortable with the camera — a perfect stepping stone into films,” smiles Deekshitha.
After the love triangle on the show, is she part of another one in her debut? “Haha, no, but I play Nazriya’s close friend, a spunky, naughty Muslim girl who is by her side throughout the film. I am part of a two lead heroine film in Kerala Nattilam Pengaludane, and then am paired opposite actor Balaji in an untitled venture,” she explains.
Exciting times are ahead and Deekshitha definitely is loving the Kollywood vibe already. “I get pampered on set by everyone because I’m the youngest and I love it! I am playing quite traditional, homely girls in my movies though, which is drastically different from my real-life persona when I’m always in urban clothing. Hopefully, a fun modern script comes along next. Like any other girl, I too aspire to work with the best of actors and directors — let’s see how it all pans out!” she says.
