Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa ducks query on support to NDA
Chennai: Keeping the BJP guessing on the possibility of her party’s support to BJP-led NDA at the Centre, Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said she would reveal her mind after the results of the Lok Sabha polls were announced.
“I am eagerly waiting for results like any other citizen which will be declared on May 16. At this juncture, I have nothing more to say. I will make my comment after results are announced,” she told reporters after her return to the city from Kodanadu in hilly Nilgiris District.
BJP sources said Mr Modi hoped that his ‘good friend’ Ms Jayalalithaa would surely not let him down if NDA were short of the magical figure of 272. There is some relief in the BJP camp after former AIADMK MP, K. Malaisamy, indicated in a TV interview that the party supremo might support the NDA if need arose.
“Mr Modi is a great friend of Ms Jayalalithaa, they may differ politically. If he becomes PM than Madam would like close ties”, he said.
The Congressmen were quick to try pricking the saffron bubble, arguing that Mr Malaisamy had no authority to speak for his boss and besides, he was only talking about a scenario when Mr Modi becomes the PM.
