BCCI does not want tough man like me in IPL probe panel: M L Sharma
Mumbai: The Indian cricket board objected to M L Sharma's appointment in the IPL probe committee and therefore his name was replaced by another IPS officer, B.B.Mishra. Mukul Mudgal panel had sought the services of former CBI Special Director M L Sharma to carry out further investigations into the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Delhi, M. L. Sharma says, "the BCCI didn't want a tough man like me and therefore I am not there in the new panel." "It is unfortunate that in our country the investigating agencies and investigators are objected by the people..."
"No, I am not sad. I am Vaidik Brahmin and Vedpathi. Nothing makes me sad or happy", he added.
The new appointee, B.B. (Bhushan Bibhuti) Mishra is a Dy. Director (General Operations) attached with the Narcotis Control Bureau in Delhi. When the news about his inclusion in the panel was first broken by us, he said, "I have heard about the Mudgal panel but never thought of being in the committee."
"Probably my previous experience of working in Assam Police and CBI, my name may have been chosen."
"I have never dealt in any case attached with the game of cricket. I was also not a part of the team during match-fixing enquiries conducted by the CBI in 2000." "I am a very private person and don't remain in public domain. I prefer to keep a low profile", he added.
Interestingly, the 59-year-old BB Das had been attached with an Anti-Corruption Unit and has handled the high profile cases like Bitumen, Nandigram and IPO scam. Being a cricketer in his college and played the game at Club level he is hoping to do justice to his new assignment. He has sought his first meeting with Mudgal on Saturday. "We have hardly few days in hands and want to finish off the enquires before August-end", he added.
