Polish student Dominika Kaminska all set to make her Kollywood debut
The aspiring actress who has grown to regard Chennai as her second home
Chennai: Dominika Kaminska who arrived in Chennai a few months ago as a bubbling student, eager to work with a reputed NGO and excited at the possibility of experiencing a new culture, has turned into an aspiring actress. Smitten with the city and with Kollywood, this Polish beauty, who now finds herself thick in the middle of Page 3 events, fashion shows and making celeb acquaintances, has her feet firmly on the ground and is prepared to work her way up, whichever industry she becomes a part of.
“Polish culture and art have a long history and are distinguishable abroad. Although Poland is highly developed and influenced by contemporary trends, it also retains its own unique tradition. I have finished pedagogical therapy studies and I’ve qualified for a programme, that allowed me to start work for a non-governmental organisation in India,” Dominika explains.
“The city where I live, Opole City, is very different from Chennai,” she points out, referring to its being clean, with green spaces, trees, parks and sidewalks. “In spite of this, I love Chennai and consider it my second home, that’s why I feel I could live here.”
In Chennai, she worked for the NGO, Malarchi Women’s Resource Centre, which is educating children and women. “The work in the organisation was an unforgettable experience for me; thanks to this job, I could see how people from poor districts and slums live. I love many things in India, especially the weather (climate), food and culture but I love most the people living here. They are friendly, helpful, hospitable, peaceful and happy about their own life. Until now I thought that being of small means meant being sorrowful and lacking the will to live. But then I met people, who, in spite of lacking money, are able to enjoy life and be happy,” she observes.
Endowed with a keen fashion sense that she says developed from when she was a kid, it’s not surprising that Dominika got noticed. “When I was a child I dressed in my mum’s clothes, changed my hairstyle, and so on. Clothes should suit the occasion, and put you in the right mood for the day. During the day, I prefer casual and comfortable clothes. In the evening, it’s elegant dresses, high heels and jewellery.”
She also has a range of other interests. “I love travelling, meeting people and getting to know new cultures. I have visited countries like Portugal, Spain, UK, Greece, France, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Russia etc. I like dancing, fashion, photography and many sports — swimming, skiing, volleyball. I was a dancer for eight years,” she adds.
As a European, she says she is often the cynosure of all eyes at parties and events and has received some film offers too, having appeared in the video clip of the well-known music director and artist Achu Rajamani. It all started after she was noticed at a fashion show for designer Sidney Sladen. She started getting recognised in Chennai and became friends with actors and film directors.
She does not, however, treat the majority of offers she receives as serious ones that will materialise. “Currently, I am waiting for the premiere of the film and the video clip in which I appear. I would very much like to take part in some Kollywood productions,” she says.
