Samsung rebrands London’s busiest airport after Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will greet you at Heathrow's Terminal 5, London

Mumbai: Samsung might be bothered about the budget handset killers like Motorola, Nokia and Lava, in the market, but is not bothered when it comes to sales. Samsung seems to spend generously on sales and marketing of the brand and its flagship handsets.

A Samsung press release, according to Android Central, states that London’s busiest airport, Terminal 5 will officially be taken over and rebranded by the tech giant. The new flagship model from Samsung, The Galaxy S5, seems to have some name similarities with Terminal 5 and hence the marketing idea kicked off. The new name would spell out as ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5’. Samsung has spent generously to rebrand the airport and the entire terminal will be put up with signs, displays, wayfindings, websites and emails will all promote the new flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S5. The two week campaign kicks-off today, May 19.

Russell Taylor, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said in the press release, "We are always looking for ways to maximise brand impact and this activity is testament to that. The partnership with Heathrow Airport and JCDecaux Airport was a one-off opportunity to push the boundaries like no other brand has been allowed to do before."

The entire airport’s signage, which includes entrance and drop-off locations, lounges, security and the gates, will be promoting the new handset. In all, 172 digital panels will be seen in the main terminal, gate rooms and baggage reclaim areas.

To take the entire experience a level further, Samsung has also made provisions at Dixons Travel stores inside the terminal which allows people to try the Samsung Galaxy S5 phones for themselves.
