Sensex edges up; IT exporters, consumer goods rebound
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex edged up on Tuesday, extending gains for a fourth consecutive session after posting a record closing high on Monday. Domestically-led shares continued to lead gains; Sesa Sterlite was up 2 per cent, while Power Grid Corp of India rose by 1.3 per cent.
IT exporters also gained after taking a beating in the previous two sessions. Shares of Infosys are up 2.6 per cent after falling 7.9 per cent in the last two sessions, while Tata Consultancy Services gained 1.7 per cent.
Defensive stocks also gained after taking a pounding recently. ITC was up 1.5 per cent after falling 8.2 per cent over the last two sessions. Overseas investors bought Indian shares worth 13.50 billion rupees ($231 million) on Monday, provisional exchange data shows.
