China stays firm on issue of stapled visa
New Delhi: On the issue of stapled visas to residents of Arunachal Pradesh, India believes that even if there are territorial disputes between two countries, it does not mean that visas should not be issued on the passports held by people.
As for the vexed boundary question, the Chinese foreign minister said the two countries have both the willingness and capability to handle the boundary issue properly. He said the two countries should not allow this to impact the overall growth of bilateral ties.
Asked about stapled visas, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, while describing it as a “special arrangement,” added, “This gesture is out of goodwill and flexibility and if we do not do that we will not be able to address the concern of outbound and overseas travel of these people.”
The Chinese minister even said that if this was acceptable to India, it could be continued in the future as it “does not undermine our respective positions on the border question and we will be able to address the qu-estion of these people.”
