First Telangana assembly speaker appointed; historic moment, says KCR
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who, along with other Assembly members, congratulated the newly elected Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary on Tuesday, said that it was a momentous occasion that those who had fought for Telangana were now at the helm of affairs of the new state.
After pro tem Speaker K. Jana Reddy announced the unanimous election of Mr Chary as the Speaker, leaders of all political parties conducted him to the Chair. Speaking first on the occasion, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao reminded the House that in the late ’90s, the mere mention of Telangana by late Dasyam Pranay Bhaskar had been removed from the records and the member was chided by the then Speaker.
“Now it is a historic occasion and a moment of joy for all Telanganites. The Telangana state is born and the Telangana Assembly is born. It is much heartening to note that those including Mr Chary, who fought for Telangana, are now here to conduct the proceedings of the House,” Mr Rao said amidst applause from all the members. He also said that the same spirit was needed from the members in achieving the “golden Telangana” in the coming days.
Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy sought mutual cooperation from the Speaker and members in restricting the House debates to people’s issues and not egoistic issues of few individuals and waste the precious time of the House.
However, other members like G. Kishan Reddy (BJP), Erraballi Dayakar Rao, Revanth Reddy (Telugu Desam), Dr J. Geetha Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (Congress) requested the Speaker to give priority to the Opposition members to speak so that real issues could be debated and solved.
