This is the beginning of Sridevi's second innings: Boney Kapoor

Mumbai: More than one-and-a half-years after its theatrical release in India, Sridevi’s English Vinglish continues to make waves internationally. This time around, it is Japan’s turn to embrace the film. Very recently the film was screened for the wife of Japanese Prime Minister. For the event Sridevi travelled to Japan with husband Boney Kapoor and her two daughters. We hear more about it from Boney in an exclusive interview.

We hear the Japanese Prime Minister’s wife was quite moved by the film…
Yes, we had a fabulous reception there. When the film ended, she had moist eyes. Even the Indian ambassador who was present there was speechless.

Is it true that there’s a restaurant in Japan now that has added a special Shashi dish (named after Sridevi’s character in the film) in their menu?
Yes! Can you believe that? We got to know that after we had left for India. There is this dish called the Shashi Meal. It includes ladoos, a delicacy that Sridevi excels in English Vinglish.

You must be a proud husband…
I am absolutely overwhelmed. Today, story-oriented and concept-based films are coming up. Earlier, some films were only using her for her star power. Now, the films and the roles that she takes up are concept oriented and character driven. This is the beginning of her second innings. In fact, this could be even better than her first innings.
