Bangladeshi players need to improve mental strength, says psychologist

India won the rain-affected series 2-0

Mumbai: Ali Khan, the Canada-based psychologist who worked with the Bangladeshi players before the recent India series (won by India 2-0, the last ODI being washed out after India collapse) believes that their players need mental skill to master.

Speaking exclusively over telephone from Canada, he said, "Things were going well, all of a sudden something can only happen when players are unable to keep the positive mental state until the match end. Indeed it's a difficult mental skill to master. Specially, cricket is a game where any time the entire situation can alter. Bangladeshi players were very committed, this is one of the important psychological skill."

In the last two ODIs, the Bangladeshi bowlers did well to keep Team India under control but the batsmen in the second match lost the control over the game and the team was out under 60 runs on board.

"There is a common saying "repetition is the mother of skill". If we know something it doesn't mean we will be able to do it. In elite sports we master any skill by thousands of repetitions. In the same manner we will master our mental skill by repetition too. I strongly believe with the help of proper guidance for psychological skill development Bangladesh team will be able to offer a great deal of success in future", he added.

"I sincerely respect the way Bangladeshi captain took the blame on themselves. He also wisely pointed the lack of mental strength of the batsman. We often say "Clarity is power" means when we are clear the location of the problem, then it's matter of taking action and achieve the mastery."

"If Bangladesh team pays serious attention to develop the psychological development of the game, I strongly believe soon they will be able to reveal the real tiger within themselves", he concluded.
