Firefox will fuel cheapest world's smartphones from two Indian makers
Spice and Intex joined Mozilla in creating their own phones
Mumbai: Mozilla's Open Source Firefox Operating System is to fuel what might well be the cheapest smartphones in the world -- below US $25. And the first two handsets in the market are both Indian brands. Spice and Intex have joined Mozilla to create their own phones which they will sell for less than Rs 2000 - while still offering all key smartphone features including dual SIM, 2 MP camera, 3.5 inch screen, 1 GHz processor, Bluetooth and Wifi.
A made-in-China ZTE Firefox phone was offered in the US, some months ago and sold in India on e-bay for around Rs 7000. But since then the design has been further refined to bring down the price to a third or less.
