No bikini ban in Goa: Manohar Parrikar
Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday ruled out banning wearing of bikinis on the state’s beaches even as PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar withdrew his controversial comments.
However, Mr Parrikar said that drinking of liquor in public places will be prohibited. “Goa government does not favour banning bikinis on the beaches. But it should not create indecency,” Mr Parrikar said.
Mr Dhavalikar, whose Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party is an ally of ruling BJP, said on Wednesday that he did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment and the comment was made purely in the interest of safety of women on Goa's beaches.
“I never wanted to hurt anyone's sentiments. What I said was purely in the interest of safety of women on beaches. If someone is hurt, then I withdraw my statement,” he said.
