Railway Budget 2014: Passenger amenities, safety and security planned for premier trains

Mumbai: The Railway Budget 2014 is all set to be presented Parliament on Tuesday, 8 July, with railway minister Sadananda Gowda to propose the upcoming changes and proposals for the lifeline of India. On the table are a few proposals, which include public safety and hygiene taken into serious consideration.

However, these proposals would be for premier trains for now. The Shatabdi will be the pilot project for an automatic closing door system for fool-proof safety. The automatic door system will also be installed in EMU trains for suburban service, as per the plan.

On the amenities side, hygiene is also taken into consideration. The railways have decided to start a pilot project of providing disposable bedrolls in Bangalore Rajdhani Express. There have been a few complaints with regards to the quality of linen provided to the passengers of the Rajdhani. A decision to provide linen made of non-woven polyester fabric, which can be disposed off after use, is in the pipeline. The proposal is to carry out the same in an experimental way in Bangalore Rajdhani and after getting necessary feedback from the passengers; the decision to adopt the same in other Rajdhani trains would be extended.
