Railway Budget 2014: Proposal for improved interiors, tighter security

Mumbai: The Railway Ministry has proposed a list of plans to be presented on July 8, 2014 during the Rail Budget session for the development of the railways. It claims to provide better amenities to citizens.

It plans to redesign its coaches, with improved furnishings and follow it up with the introduction of house keeping scheme in coaches. As per official reports, around 12 coaches will be re-manufactured with new interior furnishings as a ‘Anubhuti’ pilot project. Besides this, to maintain cleanliness, it will make sure that mechanised cleaning of coaches takes place on regular basis. Comprehensive pest and rodent control treatment will be given top priority. Officials will also be appointed to address problems related to hygiene like maintaining clean toilets and keeping coaches spick-and-span.

Railways also plan to manufacture about 4000 coaches including 700 LHB coaches. Reports also stated that the Rail ministry will roll out one train with 25 AC and non-AC coaches with improved furnishing. A total amount of Rs 38 lakh will be spent on the furnishing of AC coaches and around Rs 23 lakh on the non-AC coach furnishing.

As per the survey, about 12,000 unmanned level crossings have led to the increase in the number of train accidents, which sums up to 40 per cent of total rail mishap. To ensure further safety of passengers, X-ray systems will be installed along the tracks to detect faulty parts in trains. A new RPF personnel academy for advanced training, is likely to be proposed in the Rail Budget 2014-15, to be presented on July 8 by Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda under the new NDA regime.

The installation of CCTV, X-ray machines for baggage clearances and other gadgets are also a part of the Railway Budget peroposal.
