Rail Budget 2014: Major focus on amenities

Wi-Fi, RO drinking water, battery operated cars, lifts and escalators across stations

Mumbai: Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda announced a plethora of proposals by the railways for the common man. In his maiden budget for 2014-2015, Gowda has a prime focus on the infrastructure and modernization and has additionally promised on improving the railway services amongst many other key initiatives.

Gowda said that railway passengers will benefit from plenty ways. Passengers will be able to get destination arrival alerts on their mobiles, include SMS wakeup alerts. Online ticket booking will also be implemented. E-ticketing will additionally support up to 7200 tickets per minute, thus increasing faster ticket deployment. Automatic ticket vending machines will also introduce at all stations to save ticket booking time for passengers. Booking of tickets through mobile phones and post offices will further decease booking time and ease the methods of booking.

Gowda further stated the proposal of battery operated cars across all platforms in order to transport the disabled. Foot-over-bridges, lifts and escalators to be installed across all stations to further comfort the passengers as well as decrease the time to get in and out of stations.

Gowda also said that computer workstations will be installed at all stations. Wireless internet service will be installed across all A1 category stations. Retiring rooms would also be built at all railway stations.
