FIFA World Cup 2014: Malaysian MP Bung Mokhtar in soup following ‘Hitler’ tweet

German ambassador to Malaysia termed Bung Mokhtar's tweet 'unacceptable'

Kuala Lumpur: The German ambassador to Malaysia Holger Michael on Wednesday described a lawmaker's tweet praising Adolf Hitler after Germany crushed Brazil in the World Cup as "unacceptable.”

Bung Mokhtar Radin, a 55-year-old MP with the ruling United Malays National Organisation led by Prime Minister Najib Razak, congratulated Germany with a tweet.

In a response to the politician's tweet, the German ambassador said in a statement: "We strongly reject the unacceptable allusion to the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler".

Germany romped home to a record breaking 7-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-final. Despite coming under criticism for his "Hitler" tweet, Bung Mokhtar defended his action, saying it was done for fun.

Bung Mokhtar has deleted the controversial tweet along with one where he issued an apology.
