Non-locals have right in Telangana: Subramanian Swamy
Hyderabad: The BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy, on Sunday cautioned Telangana government against deviating from the rules of nativity by fixing 1956 as cut-off year for the purpose, since any deviation in this regard will attract action under Article 256 of the Constitution. Speaking at an interactive session, Mr Swamy took objection to Telangana raising the issue of nativity and creating fear among the people of other states living in Hyderabad.
“Telangana is a part of the Union of India and non-locals have every right to live in the state,” he remarked. He said as per Article 256, the executive power of every state shall be so exercised as to ensure compliance with the laws made by the Parliament and any existing laws which apply in that state, and the executive power of the Union shall extent to the giving of such directions to a state as may appear to the Government of India to be necessary for that purpose.
“In case, the state does not follow the directions of the Centre, it can use Article 356 and impose President's Rule to protect the interests of the citizens,” Mr Swamy said. He hoped that a negotiated settlement would be reached on Ayodhya issue. “About Ram temple in Ayodhya, we certainly would like a negotiated settlement with the Muslim community,” he said.
