An upward trajectory for Rajith Menon
Rajith Menon is one lucky guy, making his debut in yet another film industry this time in Bollywood after his stints in Mollywood, Kollywood and Tollywood. His debut character Akhilesh Muthulingam in Sameer Iqbal Patel’s directorial debut Hotel Beautifool, is that of an unlucky man who gets associated with three different women in one day, on his honeymoon, and actually does not get any of them! Who said real life follows reel life anyway?
“The movie has me playing the role of a south Indian boy married to a Punjabi girl, played by Jia Sharma. The couple goes to a hotel in Goa for their honeymoon, but due to some miscommunication, they end up in the same room as another couple. The chaos that ensues is the premise of the film. It’s based on the popular Hindi play Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat. The film is a comic caper. The shooting of the film is spread over Gujarat, Mumbai and Goa, in three different schedules,” says Rajith.
“Right now, I’m in Mumbai shooting for the first schedule. Though the movie is being directed by a debutant, the cast is really good. I’m excited about working with Johny Lever sir. I grew up watching his films. The cast also includes Rohit Khurana, Brijendra Kala, Imam Siddique, Alisha Farrer and other eminent theatre personalities,” Rajith adds.
The actor says he has been constantly getting queries about why he is not signing any Malayalam films these days. “Everyone wants to know if I have taken a break from Malayalam films. I love working in Malayalam and would definitely commit to good projects. But right now, I have committed to three really good projects in Tamil and Telugu, along with my Bollywood project, and unlike Malayalam movies, these industries have longer shooting schedules.
“Besides, for every movie I have a different style of moustache or beard. I’m sporting a clean shaven look for my Bollywood debut. These new looks are a commitment on my part towards the character I play. But this also means I cannot commit to more than one project at the same time as it will ruin continuity. This limits the number of projects I do. After the shoot of Hotel Beautifool, I am working with a Bala Productions on yet another film. Once the other two projects are also done, I will hopefully sign a Malayalam project,” says Rajith. His Malayali fans can rest assured he is not lost forever.
