‘Madhavan is a very dear friend’
Abhishek Bachchan regards Chennai as his second home
Chennai:Chennai is my favourite city in the world,” says actor Abhishek Bachchan, who was here for the Gollapudi Srinivas Award. “My family has a deep rooted connection with Chennai. My father and I have a lot of friends here in Kollywood. I try to be here with my entire family whenever I am not busy. So, Chennai has been my second home.”
Abhishek, who conferred the award to Gyan Correa, the director of The Good Road, says that encouraging young talent in the industry is important. “Directors are captains of the ship in this entire journey. So, I am extremely proud to encourage young and upcoming talent in the film industry,” he adds.
The actor, who has already worked with Mani Ratnam, says that he would love to do a Tamil film very soon. “The stories told here are wonderful, and the filmmakers are experimenting with different genres these days,” Abhishek says.
Abhishek also met his long-time buddy, Madhavan, while in Chennai. “Madhavan is one of my dearest friends in Kollywood, right from 2004 when we started shooting for the Hindi remake of director Lingusamy’s Run. The film was set in the backdrop of Chennai. Madhavan used to visit the sets of my film during those days on a regular basis, and we used to have great fun. Even now, we catch up whenever we are free from work,” says Abhishek.
Bachchan Jr is currently busy with Happy New Year. Farah Khan directs the film, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. He says, “It will be a perfect entertainer. Shooting for the film will always be memorable. I’m happy to join hands with Shah Rukh Khan again,” he says.
