Teacher's Day celebrations: Confusion reigns on Prime Minister’s speech
Kochi: Even though the Director of Public Instructions is yet to officially withdraw the circular asking schools to make arrangements for showing the Prime Minister’s message on September 5, teachers are being asked to report at common venues for ‘Teachers’ Day’ celebrations, also on the same day.
“The headmistress and two teachers from a school should report at a common venue under the respective District Educational Office to celebrate Teachers’ Day. In our case, the venue is Nirmala School, Aluva,” said G. Vijayalekshmi, headmistress, Government High School, North Paravur.
“We’re yet to get any mail or message indicating that the circular has been withdrawn. We’ve read in newspapers that participation of children is not a must. We request the authorities to exempt us from making arrangements for showing or recording live the PM’s address,” said T.G.Vilasini, principal, SRV Model High School, Ernakulam.
Earlier, a meet convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had decided it was not mandatory for all schools to show the Teacher’s Day address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 5. However, there is a common understanding among schools to record the PM address and play it later for the benefit of students who would be interested in listening to him.
The circular had asked the schools to ensure that the PM’s message was aired or showed to children live from 2.45 pm to 4.45 pm on Friday. Teachers’ Day celebrations would last the whole day.
