80-year-old anti-arrack activist denied pension

Dubagunta Rosamma is suffering from kidney ailment since last one-and-half year
Nellore: Leader of anti-arrack movement Vardhineni Rosamma, popularly known as Dubagunta Rosamma has expressed shock over removal of her name from the list of old age pensioners. It was a shock of sorts for the 80-year-old woman suffering from kidney ailment since last one-and-half year and undergoing treatment.
She was visibly upset after she came to know about the absence of her name in the list during Grama Sabha held in Dubagunta village on Wednesday.
“I have been receiving widow pension right from NTR period and it was not cancelled even when the government eliminated scores of names in the past. I am pained and hurt over the situation as I have no other source of income. Moreover my health condition also bad as I am undergoing dialysis,” the old woman said appealing to the authorities to restore her pension.
Referring to officials claim that her name was withheld from pensioners list as there is 5 acres of land in her possession, she said that she is entitled for the pension since there is only 3.40 acres of land on her name.
When contacted, MPDO of Kaligiri Mandal, Venkata Seshaiah, said that as many as 400 names in pensioners list have been withheld in the mandal. He said the name of Rosamma was not removed but only placed in the withheld list since online records indicate 5 acres of land in her name. He promised to include her name in beneficiaries list if VRO and panchayath secretary submit a report that she is eligible for it.
