Students fret over deadline

October 15 deadline for students to apply for the income and caste certificates
Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s October 15 deadline for students to apply for the income and caste certificates has created utter confusion among students.
With the High Court rapping the government on the FAST scheme which sets November 1, 1956 as the nativity cutoff, students fear the government might be considering filtering students for fee reimbursement on the basis on these applications.
Students who already have these certificates will have to surrender them and apply afresh according to the proforma prepared by the government. Students will have to provide Aadhaar and household survey details. However, ground level officials say they have received no instructions on the matter.
Besides, the government hasn’t issued any categorical statement on the FAST scheme.
The government has amended the AP Issue of Community, Nativity and Birth Certificate Act, 1997, and included details of Aadhaar number, household survey number and the permanent residence of the parents at the time of notification of the student’s caste as backward classes or SCs/STs.
“Students will have to surrender their existing certificates and obtain new ones,” a revenue official said. “There are a lot of questions surrounding the FAST scheme specially after the High Court comments. After the certificates’ issue process is completed, some final decisions can be taken,” an education department official said.
