Hudhud spares districts

Little impact of cyclone on Krishna & Guntur districts
Vijayawada/guntur: People of Krishna and Guntur districts heaved a collective sigh of relief on Sunday after they were spared from the impact of Cyclone Hudhud. Farmers across the two districts, especially those raising commercial crops, had been a worried lot ever since the Met department broke the news of the cyclone’s path.
Officials and farmers had been keeping a close watch on the advance of the cyclone and heaved a collective sigh of relief after it hit the coast in Visakhapatnam district.
The anxiety among the farmers was understandable, considering the fact that during the last two years, they had borne the brunt of three consecutive cyclones.
Ministers D. Umamaheswara Rao and Kollu Ravindra reviewed the cyclone relief operations in the district. As many as 79 cyclone relief centres were arranged in 130 coastal villages, said district collector M. Raghunandan Rao.
Fishermen of Nizampatnam remained confined to the shore following orders by the administration not to venture into the Bay of Bengal for fishing. Meanwhile, people of Bapatla, Nizampatnam, Pittalavanipalem and other mandals performed special pujas in their respective villages for the cyclone to pass without any destruction or devastation.
According to the Met department, moderate to heavy rainfall would occur in the next two days in the area.
