Drushyam, now in Hindi
Epic hit from the South could see Saif or Akshay playing lead in the remake
Hyderabad: Mega-hit South film Drushyam is continuing its re-make run with Bollywood now showing interest in the project. Director of the Malayalam original, Jeethu Joseph, has confirmed that the rights to the film have been bought by Viacom pictures. Rumours now claim Saif Ali Khan will be playing the lead role.
Earlier this year, the Telugu version of the movie, with actor Venkatesh in the lead, released to much critical acclaim. But the project was not without its share of controversy.
Bollywood's Ekta Kapoor had sent producer Suresh Babu a legal notice asking him to stop distribution of the film, claiming she had the rights to the original Japanese novel on which the first Malayalam version was based.
But amidst all this chaos, Viacom seems to have jumped in to buy the rights of the movie.
A source from Viacom 18 revealed: "Yes, we have bought the rights of the Malyalam film. But we are in the process of singing the lead cast none of the actors have been signed on yet. But Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan have been approched. Let's see who will fit in, according to dates available with them."
