Hyderabad: After Hudhud, yet another cyclone is likely to lash parts of India. This time it could hit the Kutch region of Gujarat.
Regions of Telangana and Seemandhra would receive moderate and heavy rainfall for the next two and four days respectively, due to the deep depression formed in the Arabian Sea.
Director, IMD Hyderabad, K. Sitaram, said, “Presently, the deep depression in Arabian Sea is 1,400 km from Mumbai coastline and is moving in a west-north-west direction. The intensity of the cyclone can be gauged only by tomorrow when it comes further near the coastline.”
The IMD official added that, if the cyclone turns a little north, it is likely to hit the coastline of Kutch district directly and other western coastal areas of Gujarat. The cyclone would also hit the coastline of Pakistan. If the cyclone inclines a little over west then it would hit Oman.
The effect of this system (depression) formation is resulting in rain in the regions of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.
In the south as a result of the Northeast Monsoon that is on, rain would increase in the coming days and would become severe.
Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at a few places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Sitaram further said, “Heavy rain would occur at isolated places in all districts of Rayalaseema and in the districts of Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It would receive 40 per cent of rainfall of this season till November. The rains in Seemandhra would be moderate to heavy. However, Telangana would receive 20 per cent of rain till November that would be scanty and not more than 2 cm.”
As on Saturday, rainfall occurred in isolated places of South-Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and North-Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Guntur and Prakasam districts of costal AP received near heavy rain with recorded rainfall of 9.7 cm and 5.5 cm respectively. While, Anantapur of Rayalaswem received
heavy rain with a recorded rainfall of 15.7 cm
