Attack in retaliation to Pakistan military operation
Islamabad: The Al Qaeda-affiliated Jundullah group claimed responsibility for the attack at Wagah. A spokesman for the splinter group of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ahmed Marwat, said the attack was a reaction to the military operation Zarb-e-Azb and the Waziristan operation.
Punjab Rangers director-general Maj. Gen. Tahir Javed Khan confirmed that three Rangers had died. “Five Ranger officials have been critically injured as well,” he said while speaking to the reporters in Lahore.
He said, “The suicide bomber was standing just before the first scanner and he did not breach security.” “The place where the suicide attacker exploded is 500-600 yards way from the parade ground,” he said.
Punjab police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera said, “Up to 5 kg of explosive material was used in the blast.” “We thought war had broken out. We feared this due to the ongoing firing along the Line of Control,” a survivor at the site said.
