WhatsApp has pushed an over-the-air feature on iOS and Android versions of its app, which is a small but significant one. Till now, a user was notified if a message was delivered by two tick marks next to a message. However, WhatsApp users can now know if the message they sent has been read. Once the recipient opens a message the two ticks next to the text message turn blue. In case of a group chat, the two ticks turn blue when all the participants have read a message.

A notification that a message has been read, sort of turns into a social pressure that obligates you to reply to a message. It was hard enough to handle the last seen notification, and now the blue tick marks!
