Shias do not perform marriages in the month of Moharram
Hyderabad: Shias do not perform marriages in the month of Moharram, the mourning period. As a result many Shia families have not enlisted for the Shaadi Mubarak on November 11.
All India Shia Organisation president Mir Hadi Ali said, “It is a good scheme but it must not be held in the month of Moharram. There are 20 lakh Shias among the 60 lakh Muslims in TS.”
The organisation has requested Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to put off the Shadi Mubarak to January 4, Milad-un-Nabi. Under the scheme, Rs 51,000 will be provided to poor girls of the minority community at the time of marriage.
All India Shia Organisation general secretary Mirza Mehdi Baig said, “We have written a letter and sought time to explain these details which have not been understood by the government.
