2 day national meet on coastal maritime history
KOCHI: A two-day national conference organised by the Archeological Survey of India beginning here from Monday will explore in developing a holistic understanding of the coastal maritime history of the sub-continent.
The conference, part of the Project Mausam, aims for developing framework and identify resource persons for an international conference scheduled to be held in Goa in February next year, Dr. Nambirajan, director World Heritage sites told DC on Sunday.
The conference, supported by Indira Gandhi Centre of National Arts, National Museum and Kerala Tourism department, will focus on reviewing the existing data and identification of potential coastal sites in the country that could be included in the World Heritage sites to be prepared as part of tracing the ancient trade routes along the Indian Ocean, Dr. Nambirajan said. A special session on Spice Route will also be made as part of the conference.
The project an initiative by UNESCO covers West Asia, East Africa, South East Asian Countries and India, he added. Ravindra Singh, secretary ministry of culture will inaugurate the conference.
Rakesh Tewari, Director General of Archaeological Survey of India, Dipali Khanna of IGNCA and several dignitaries will attend the conference.
