More rapes in PM hometown than in Karnataka: Home Minister K J George
He announced that an exclusive women's police station would be opened in each district
BELAGAVI: Under attack by the opposition parties, especially the BJP, for the rising number of rapes in the state, Home Minister K J George denied on Friday that the government was responsible and claimed that more rapes were reported from Ahmedabad, the hometown of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Calling for people’s support in preventing rapes in the state, he defended the idea of collecting personal information about school teachers as a deterrent against sexual assaults on children in schools.
The minister, who was speaking to reporters in Bijapur, announced that an exclusive women's police station would be opened in each district in the next two years and more police stations would be established in various parts of the state.
Claiming there were no irregularities in the appointment of police , he said the process was more transparent here than in other states. “ The written examinations and the interviews conducted as part of the recruitment process are recorded on video and also captured on CCTV cameras.
A copy of the answersheets is given to the candidates concerned as well to help them assess their performance,” he added, maintaining that strict checks had been put in place during every phase of the appointment process to avoid manipulation or mistakes.
The minister said an investigation had been ordered into the leak of question papers during the police constables’ examination and senior officials told to bring the culprits to book at the earliest.
Tirthahalli case:
As for the ongoing investigation into the death of a teenager from Tirthahalli, Mr George said the case had been handed over to the CID and further action would be taken based on its report.
