Defence equipment worth over Rs 1800 crore exported since 2011

India exported equipment worth Rs 512 crore and Rs 446 in 2011 and 2012 respectively

New Delhi: India has exported defence equipment to the tune of Rs 1,812.17 crore since 2011, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday.

The exports are undertaken by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and Private Industry (based on the NOCs issued by the Defence Ministry).

According to the statistics, India exported defence equipment worth Rs 512.48 crore in 2011 and equipment worth Rs 446.75 crore in 2012.

The highest was in 2013 when Indian exported defence equipment to the tune of Rs 686.27 crore while the provisional value of defence gooods exported this year, till September, was Rs 166.67 crore.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Parrikar noted that in the Union Budget 2014-15, government has announced a Technology Development Fund with an initial sum of Rs 100 Crore to provide necessary resources to public and private sector companies, including Small And Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) as well as academic and scientific institutions to support research and development of Defence Systems that enhance cutting edge technology capability in the country.

In another reply, Parrikar said a number of defence systems designed and developed by DRDO have been productionised by the production agencies and inducted into Armed Forces.

"DRDO is not involved in the export of defence equipment. However, some of the DRDO's developed products, systems, like radars, electronic warfare systems, missiles, etc. can be exported to our friendly countries," he said.
