Portronics Mobilio review: Multifunctional mobile stand and LED lamp
Working at your desk, at home or at office, should definitely be comfortable. To add to the comfort, each object on your desk should be conveniently placed and should make way for work space. That includes your laptop or monitor, the mouse, keyboard, your pen stand, notebook, and practically everything that you need on your table.
However, as usual, your smartphone could be the only one that does not have a proper place on the desk. If you own a mobile phone stand, you could be still using that space on your desktop intelligently, but you still are occupying some space for no reason.
When using your desk at night, you need a light to work under. This also involves using a table lamp which could also add up to the amount of articles on your desk, wasting precious work area. Now if you have a small work desk at home and your folks sleep in the same room as you work, you cannot keep the light on. Portronics has a unique product that can help you save on space as well as help you work conveniently.
Portronics has launched Mobilio, a mobile stand which doubles up as an LED lamp for night use. The mobile stand is made of a plastic clamp with a rubber grip. The clamp can be used to hold on to the edge of your desk or to the edge of your overhead shelf.
The other edge consists of a Mobilio, which is powered by a 2W cool-white LED. The power for the LED lamp can be drawn using any USB port on your laptop or desktop, or from any conventional USB charger. The lamp area also doubles up as a mobile clamp, using which you can place your smartphone or phablet. The Mobilio conveniently keeps you smartphone off the table and you can use while to viewing your email, alerts, messages or alike.
The arm of the Mobilio is 850mm long and made of a flexible metal, encased with a soft rubber for a good aesthetic look. The stand arm is flexible and can be bent or curved in any direction for convenient lamp and mobile operation.
The Portronics Mobilio also comes with a mini USB port (at the desk clamp area) and a 1.5 metre USB cable for power. The cable also sports an in-line on/off switch for operating the lamp.
The Portronics lamp/mobile stand is a great accessory for your work desk at home or office. However, we did find a few shortfalls with the product that could have benefited the customer, if present. Firstly, the product could have an option for using it as a tablet stand and not only should it have been restricted for mobile phones. Secondly, the LED lamp can be operated only of the mobile is not placed on the stand. The LED should have been placed in a more convenient place so that one can use both the features the product, simultaneously. Lastly, since the product is USB powered, the stand should have been equipped with a proper micro USB cable at the mobile clamp area, so that the mobile could also be charged or can be used for data transfer while being placed on the stand.
Taking into consideration the mobile stand’s shortcomings, the Portronics LED lamp cum mobile stand seems a bit too expensive. The build quality of the product is definitely good and the stability of the lamp arm is pretty sturdy. All-in-all, the product is a tad too expensive, and would be worth every penny if it could include the options for a separate LED housing, tablet mounting option and simultaneous charging. The Portronics multifunctional mobile phone stand is available for an MRP of Rs 1,599 and in blue, green, violet and pink colours.
