IS accused tweeter Masroor spills the beans after his arrest
Bengaluru: Mehdi Masroor Biswas, 24, who was handling the Twitter handle @Shami-Witness, was arrested by the city police from his rented apartment in Ayyappanagar at Jalahalli in the early hours of Saturday.
The police confirmed that he confessed to handling the Twitter account that had a following of over 17,000 tweeters and was believed to have a influenced several people from the United Kingdom to join the terrorist movement IS. During the interrogation, he also told the police that he was in touch with English-speaking ISIS terrorists in the UK.
Biswas, who is an electrical engineering graduate from the Guru Nanak Institute of Technology in West Bengal Technical University, moved to the city in 2012 and had since been working as manufacturing executive at ITC Foods in Jalahalli.
At a joint press conference of the city police and the internal security division, DG & IGP Lalrokhuma Pachuau said, “On the basis of intelligence inputs about ISIS Twitter ideologue @ShamiWitness, a special team of CCB police officers apprehended Mehdi Masroor Biswas from his rented apartment.”
